Welcome to Big Lake Campmeeting Association
Dear Big Lake Campmeeting Friends,
2017 was a phenomenal year for Big Lake Campmeeting! We saw our largest youth camp in years and witnessed once again God working in the lives of our young people. For so many of us, our Campmeeting experience was critical to launching us on our Christian journey through life. It remains so today.
Our partnership with the Missions Team enabled a record number of volunteers who were able to reach out so generously to those in need in the community. They have helped Big Lake Campmeeting to be a strong witness for God’s love.
Our Dining Hall Kitchen received a spectacular makeover that left us -- and the health inspectors -- very happy. What started with the generous contribution of new countertops by the Lucas Family, which expanded into new cabinets and other improvements. We put the final touches on that project during our work weekend this past Fall when the kitchen floor was sanded and resealed. Thanks again to all who helped us fund the new commercial refrigerator that now has a place of pride in our new kitchen.
We can truly see the Lord’s hand of blessing in our progress.
The finance committee has been working diligently to prepare for the next round of necessary improvements which were agreed to at the Annual Meeting last July. I want to share with you our plans for work to be done this Spring in time for Campmeeting 2018.
Many of us think of the dining hall as our "new" building, but it is actually 55 years old! No one can remember when the roof was last replaced, and it clearly needs to be replaced now. With the improvements inside the building, allowing those improvements to be damaged by a leaking roof would be foolish.
Replacing the roof with metal will also necessitate building some dormers that extend over the doors on the lake side to keep snow from blocking the entrances. Those dormers will also provide some protection from the rain in the summer as folks come and go from the building.
We also need to replace the temporary bathroom which was added to the dining hall when the Sunrise Advent Christian Church began year-round Sunday services. An insulated bathroom, that is handicapped accessible, is needed.
The final piece of our 2018 effort is to put a permanent roof on the small building Veronica so generously donated to us in 2015 and which now sits next to the dining hall. We want to begin using the building during Campmeeting this year.
We estimate the total cost of these improvements could be as much as $18,000. That is a significant sum, but the prayer we made during our Annual Meeting when we discussed these needs is being answered as God has begun to show us a path to success.
One third of the $18,000 total has been pledged by the members of the Sunrise Advent Christian Church who have been actively fundraising throughout this past Fall and this Winter to raise $6,000. We are grateful to them for this commitment. As you know, they use the dining hall for Sunday services year round and they are providing a vital and growing ministry to the Big Lake area.
The second $6,000 has been committed as a CHALLENGE GIFT by three Big Lake Campmeeting Association members -- as an incentive to the rest of the Big Lake Campmeeting family to raise the final $6,000 we need.
We are asking you to consider a gift or pledge to help us raise the final $6,000 we need. Because of the challenge gift, every dollar you give is worth $2 to the success of the project.
Many of you give generously to our annual expenses and we are so grateful for that critical ongoing support. But from time to time we must also invest in the maintenance and improvement of the structures which enable Big Lake Campmeeting’s ministry to go forward and continue to make a difference in the lives of so many.
So, we come to you with this special Capital appeal and ask for your prayerful consideration. Please give generously and pray for our Campmeeting as we look forward to Big Lake Campmeeting 2018.
Stephen Cox, President, On Behalf of the Board and the Finance Committee
